Court Blocks Mental Checks Against City Tycoon Mohan Kiwanuka

Kampala, Uganda:

Embattled City Tycoon, Mohan Kiwanuka will not be subjected to mental checks as requested by one of his sons, Jordan Ssebuliba, High Court judge ruled on Friday.

Ssebuliba had filed a suit ordering for a compulsory mental for his father, whom he accused of selling scores of his property.

But in a twist of events, Justice Musa Ssekaana ruled that Ssebuliba failed to convince court why his request was necessary.

In his ruling, Justice Ssekaana said: “It would be defamatory to drag someone living peacefully and let them to dementia tests. It would be absurd to take a man doing his business peacefully for impairment tests.”

Before Justice Ssekaana ordered each party to meet their costs, he said he had also held a one on one interview with Kiwanuka and found him to be of sound mind.

Ssebuliba found a hard ground, after three of his siblings, swore affidavits opposing his request to have their father undergo a compulsory mental check.

Kiwanuka who owns a chain of businesses ranging from manufacturing, real estate, media, and scores of buildings in posh Kololo, Nakasero and Naguru came under attack after he fired his son as Corporation Secretary and co-signatory
