Rewards come to those who comply with tax issues. This was the case for Airtel Uganda, who emerged the best in tax payments in the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) best tax payers awards. Airtel was recognized for emerging out as Uganda’s Largest Tax Payer.
Finance Minister, Matia Kasaijja handed over the awards at the end of this year’s URA Tax appreciation week that was held at the Kololo Independence Grounds.
Also recognized among the recognized 19 top tax payers included Centenary Bank, Uber and Huawei Technologies among others.
According to URA’s boss, Doris Akol, Airtel forked out Shs136 billion in the financial year 2018/19.
Airtel Uganda Managing Director V G Somasekhar, described the award as a honor.
URA, Tax Payers Derby
Meanwhile Tax Collectors, Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) and leading Chief Executives of the leading tax payers led by City Tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia led their respective teams to a URA derby that was held at the Legends Rugby ground in Lugogo, in Kampala.
The match played on Friday afternoon was captained by Sudhir on the Tax Payers side, while URA Commissioner General, Doris Akol led her staff. The proceeds from the match will be used to support Buwama Primary School.
