URA Names MTN- Uganda Leading Tax Payer

Uganda’s Leading Telecommunication giants, MTN has again been named as the top tax payer in the country.

The latest list of Uganda’s largest tax payers released by an inside source at URA  placed MTN Uganda on top with a whooping Shs 682.4 billion for FY2018/19.

MTN Uganda is the largest telecom company in Uganda, with 11.2 million subscribers, accounting for 55 percent market share, as of 30 June 2017.

Airtel Uganda came second with Shs535.9 billion while Vivo Energy secured the third with Shs 398.9 billion.

The list further puts Jinja based Nile Breweries Limited on fourth place with She. 394.8 billion closely followed by Bank of Uganda in fifth position with Shs. 390.4 billion.

In chronological order, Uganda Breweries Limited posted Shs 308.4 and Total Uganda  Shs 300.6 billion taking 6th and 7th places respectively.

Also on the list are Umeme Limited, Tororo Cement, Kakira Sugar Ltd and Bidco Uganda ltd toping up the top 11 tax payers list.

Others include Crown Beverages, Nile Energy, Century Bottling company and Centenary Development Bank Limited
