REMANDED: Makindye West MP, Ssewanyana Sent To Kitalya Over COVID 19 SOPs Violations

KAMPALA, Uganda|SHIFTMEDIA| Government is getting tough regarding violation of COVID 19 campaign guidelines.

The COVID 19 infections have now surpassed 16,000 mark with over 150 deaths.

Makindye West Member of Parliament, Allan Alousyius Ssewanyana (Omusajja was bwino) will chill for five days at the Kitalya prison until November 23 2020.

His crime was conducting door- door campaigns in Makindye which is against the Electoral Commission guidelines on election campaigns amidst the Coronavirus pandemic.

Ssewanyana was remanded by Makindye’s Magistrate Jude Okumu.

The prosecution said Ssewanyana and others still at large staged a campaign rally at Mulungu Landing Site in Munyonyo on November 15, 2020, which had more than the mandated 200 people.

Ssewanyana denied the charges and describing them as trumped-up charges.

Ssewanyana is free to apply for bail when he returns to court on November 23, 2020.
