KAMPALA, Uganda| SHIFT MEDIA NEWS: PRINCIPAL JUDGE Yorokamu Bamwine has issued stern warnings to judicial officers to desist from engaging in corruption-related scandals as they tarnish the institution’s image and leads to poor service delivery.
Justice Bamwine made the remarks while presiding over the open court day at Nabweru chief magistrates court.
Scores of residents complained about the rampant corruption at Nabweru Court, where many have been denied justice.
Residents called for reduced bureaucratic measures while seeking justice and follow-ups of their case files which often are claimed to be missing.
Ssentongo Gerald a resident of Kawempe accused the current judicial officers at Nabweru for taking long to handle their matters compared to the times when Her Worship Esther Rebecca Nasambu served as the Chief Magistrate.
Ssentongo said Nasambu always heard a listening ear and gave an open audience to everyone who came with a complaint. “The current administration is rather arrogant,” he said.
In the same development, PJ Bamwine called upon legal officers of all calibers to emulate the image of King Solomon in the bible who used extraordinary wisdom to bring justice to the people he led.
‘’All these officers are well paid to the best of my knowledge, why give them money?, why should you first pay to get Justice?!!..” the furious Bamwine asked.
He added that such public engagements are meant to bridge the gap between judicial officers and the public and bring about genuine accountability to improve the image of the court.
In this engagement, various legal officers including police, prisons, and the DPP department presented their work to the people who often complained about the unfair system of apprehending their people hence delaying justice administering.
