ENTEBBE, UGANDA|SHIFTMEDIA| Scores of religious leaders are heading to State House Entebbe today for the National Prayers to be hosted by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

President Museveni made the pronouncements through his social media platform noting that he had invited a few clergy to pray for the nation against the Corona pandemic.

Museveni urged Ugandans to join in the prayers that will be televised live starting at 13 hours today Saturday 9 May 2020.

“The televised prayers will start at 1 pm. I urge all Ugandans to pray for our country while observing the health guidelines,” reads the post in part.

The previous time prayers were held at State House Entebbe was way back on March 21 2020,  when President Museveni accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataha Museveni joined other religious leaders at the intercessory national prayers on the COVID-19 global pandemic.

The intercessory prayers (above) was organized by the Inter-Religious Council Union (IRCU). The intercessory prayers sought to seek the protection of God and spare Uganda from the global pandemic that has sieged the entire world.

God seems to have answered since no death has so far been reported on COVID-19 despite the soaring numbers that are now 101 with 55 recoveries.

Our neighbors Kenya so far have 621 cases, 21 deaths, and registered recovery of 202 cases. Meanwhile, in Rwanda, the cases stand at 273 with zero deaths and 136 recoveries. The last time Tanzania released official results, about a week ago, it had 509 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 21 deaths and 183 recoveries.

In Burundi where election campaigns have started, one person has so far died of the pandemic with numbers still lying at 15 with 7 recoveries.

The worrying trend is in neighboring South Sudan where the cases have risen to 120 with no registered deaths and recoveries yet.
