Kampala, Uganda|SHIFT MEDIA NEWS| Uganda Telecom has officially received a new administrator after the former, Twebaze Bemanya was booted out.

The former President of Uganda Law Society Ruth Sebatindira took over the mantle of the stewardship at a colorful handover ceremony held on Monday.

Sebatindira was appointed the new administrator last week following clashes between Bemanya and the Privatisatio Minister Evelyne Anite. President Museveni intervened and ordered that Bemanya had to quit to allow smooth operations of the financially embattled firm.

Speaking during the handover ceremony at the telecom’s headquarters in Kampala Monday afternoon, Mr Bemanya said Sebatindira’s “competence and experience, makes” him confident that she will build on the successes to make the UTL brand better.

Bemanya said his team at URSB, had successfully handed over Uganda Telecom to Ruth, the new Administrator.

Bemanya challenged Sebatindira to build on registered success, which includes the reduction of the cost of internet used by government entities by 77 percent from $300 (about Shs11m) per megabits to only $70 (about Shs256,000).

“Her competence and experience, makes me confident that she will build on the successes to make UTL brand better. I wish her well,” he added.
“We reawakened UTL’s relationship with West Indian Ocean Cable Company where UTL is a 9.13 percent shareholder, entitled to big volumes of internet and dividends,” Bemanya said.

Bemanya said that through engaging with professional valuers, the asset market of UTL now stands at $84m, a 110 per increase from only $40m left behind by the former management. Bemanya boasted of having reduced the claims of creditors from $250m to $145m.
