Werner will link up his new team-mates in July, subject to passing a medical.

The fee for the 24-year-old German international is understood to be around £48million.

“I am delighted to be signing for Chelsea, it is a very proud moment for me to be joining this great club,” he declared.

“I of course want to thank RB Leipzig, the club and the fans, for four fantastic years. You will forever be in my heart.

“I look forward to next season with my new teammates, my new manager and of course the Chelsea fans.

“Together we have a very successful future ahead of us.”

Werner, who had also been on Liverpool’s radar, has scored 32 times all competitions for RB Leipzig this season to enhance his reputation as one of the best-attacking prospects in Europe.

His latest goal came on Wednesday night, a superb long-range strike in a 2-2 draw with Dusseldorf.

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia added: “We are very excited that Timo Werner has chosen to join Chelsea.

“He is a player who was coveted all over Europe and it is no surprise, he has that rare mix of being young and exciting and yet established and proven.

“We can’t wait to have Timo on board, but until then we wish him and RB Leipzig all the best for the rest of this season.”

Chelsea are backing boss Lampard heavily in the transfer market as they look to mount a title challenge to Liverpool and Manchester City next season.

Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell is understood to be next in Lampard’s sights after agreements were reached for Werner and Ziyech.

Bayer Leverkusen’s talented young midfielder Kai Havertz is also understood to be among Chelsea’s targets.

Lampard’s immediate focus will be on steering the club into the Champions League.

The Blues are currently sitting fourth in the table, three points ahead of Manchester United, and resume their season at Aston Villa on Sunday. Source/Talksport
