BULGARIA manager Krasimir Balakov has resigned after the disgraceful scenes of racism aimed at England players in Monday’s Euro 2020 qualifier.

The entirety of the Bulgarian FA (BFU) Executive Committee have also tendered their resignations.

It follows the exit of BFU president Borislav Mihaylov shortly after Monday’s game.

The country’s prime minister added his voice to the calls for resignations, vowing to cut all political and financial ties to the BFU until Mihaylov left.

Raheem Sterling and Tyrone Mings were among the England players racially abused with disgusting monkey chants during the 6-0 win.

Bulgarian fans were also seen making Nazi salutes as the game was stopped twice for pleas to end the abuse.

Astonishingly, in his post-match comments coach Balakov denied any knowledge of the abuse.

He told ITV: “I personally did not hear the chanting you are most probably referring to.

“I saw that the referee stopped the game.

“But I also have to say the unacceptable behaviour was not only on behalf of the Bulgaria fans but also the England fans who were whistling and shouting during the Bulgaria national anthem and during the second half they used words against our fans which I find unacceptable.”

He added: “If this turns out to be true, we are truly sorry.

“The Bulgaria national team and the Bulgaria football union are working very hard and no one wants to see this.

“But let me tell you this really has never happened before in our games up until now.”

UEFA have charged Bulgaria with racist behavior, throwing objects and disrupting the national anthem.
