Basajja Mivule Arrested Over Sectarianism & Inciting Violence

KAMPALA, Uganda|SHIFTMEDIA| Veteran show host Basajja Mivule who was due to appear at the Police Headquarters Naguru for questioning today at 2 pm has been arrested as he presided over a live televised talkshow on Baba Television early on Monday.

He was picked by plain-clothed security personnel as he ended his morning programme called Fumintiriza.

Basajja Mivule, a strong government critic, has been posting hard-hitting videos on his Facebook page that has over 70,000 followers.

speaking to this reporter, Mivule said he was not threatened either scared by the arrests. “I wonder why the had to pick me yet I was due to take myself (to Naguru) at 2 pm,” he said. Mivule said he received a call from a one Brig. Ddamuliira attached to Crime Intelligence asking him to report to explain his remarks that security says is geared towards inciting violence.

During a morning Top Radio Talkshow, Omugaga Kamagu revealed that Mivule had been summoned by CID to appear at Naguru Police Headquarters. “I will duly escort him (Mivule) as he appears at Police Headquarters Naguru at 2 pm today,” said Kamagu.

Mivule said he was ready to face off with security saying all that the Bizonto aired were his views and he stands with them. “It is true it is me who said all top security officials are from one region (western), and it is a fact. I can’t retract it. I will die on duty as a bulb,” he said.

He listed President Museveni, Chief of Defence Forces Gen David Muhoozi, and Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the senior presidential advisor on special operations as some of those who hail from one region. His arrest comes days after police arrested four comedians who call themselves Bizonto (the deranged) for allegedly inciting tribalism.

However, the comedians say they intended to teach children, now stuck at home because schools are shut down, about the people who occupy strategic positions in the country.

A top detective attached to Crime Intelligence told ShiftMedia News that Mivule was summoned the arrested Bizonto team said they were not the original composers of the skit that has since gone viral.

“When we asked them the source of the skit, they said they got it from Mivule, so we want him (Mivule) to come and explain more,” said the senior detective. Mivule according to the security source will face charges ranging from inciting violence, spreading hate speech and sectarianism. among others.
