MUNYONYO, Uganda Sept 30 [SHIFTMEDIA] President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, National Resistance Movement (NRM) party chairman and presidential flagbearer, has today officially kickstarted his presidential campaigns from Bukalasa in Luwero, a base were he launched the 5 year guerilla war that brought him to power in 1986.

This follows the launch of the NRM party 2026 -2031 manifesto at the Speke Resort in Munyonyo on Monday Sept 29. The event drew top NRM officials, government dignitaries, and enthusiastic supporters, signaling the start of Museveni’s campaign for another five-year term in the 2026 general elections.

The manifesto, themed “Protecting the Gains,” underscores the NRM’s focus on preserving Uganda’s stability, economic progress, and socio-economic transformation. Museveni outlined key priorities, including diversifying energy sources through advancements like nuclear power for energy security, and promoting patriotism, Pan-Africanism, and democracy. “The NRM has sailed Uganda through turbulent storms,” Museveni declared, emphasizing wealth creation, job opportunities, education, health, justice, and regional integration.

Museveni who took the scores of NRM delegates through the wealth creation points said the only way to address poverty is to think about commercial agriculture, manufacturing, service industry and ICT.

The manifesto launch follows Museveni’s recent nomination for the 2026 polls and coincides with opposition activities, notably the National Unity Platform leader Bobi Wine’s manifesto unveiling in Jinja on the same day. The Speke Resort Munyonyo, a venue known for hosting major events, added prestige to the occasion. Museveni previously launched the 2021–2026 manifesto here, themed “Securing Your Future,” which also prioritized inclusive development and job creation.

Supporters expressed excitement, with many describing the manifesto as a “bold blueprint” for Uganda’s transformation. “Today, we protect the gains and build a prosperous Uganda,” an NRM youth leader proclaimed. However, critics raised concerns about accountability for past promises, fueling debates on governance and economic equity.

Kyagulanyi Robert AKA Bobi Wine Launches in Jinja

As Museveni launched his manifesto, National Unity Platforms Presidential flag bearer launched his manifesto and campaigns in Jinja attended by a mammoth crowd. Addressing his supporters, Kyagulanyi said the manifesto, a 38 page document dubbed “A New Uganda Now.” outlines 11 key policy priorities, with Kyagulanyi vowing to restore constitutional order, reduce wasteful government expenditure, and boost funding for social services.

“Ugandans have been betrayed for far too long,” Kyagulanyi told thousands of supporters gathered at the campaign ground in Buwenge Town Council. “This manifesto is not just a document; it is a commitment to build a country that works for all its citizens, not just a privileged few.”

The launch marked the beginning of what is expected to be a high-energy campaign aimed at unseating President Museveni, who has ruled Uganda since 1986.

Meanwhile Forum for Democratic Change party flag bearer James Nathan Nandala Mafabi was in Buikwe where he started his campaigns. The NationalPeasants Party candidate Robert Kasibante started his campaigns his home areas in Mityana and Kassanda, while The Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) Candidate Rtd Gen Mugisha Muntu and Elton Joseph Mabirizi of the Conservative Party will start their campaigns next week.
