PORT –AU PRINCE- SHIFTMEDIA- Scores of residents in Haiti woke up in shaking beds after a strong earthquake struck the small island nations once again at the weekend.
“I woke up and didn’t have time to put my shoes on. We lived [through] the 2010 earthquake and all I could do was run. I later remembered my two kids and my mother were still inside. My neighbor went in and told them to get out. We ran to the street,” Naomi Verneus told Associated Press.
The 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck on Saturday morning leaving 304 people dead.
So far over a massive search for hundreds of missing persons is underway after authorities said the new earthquake may raise the death toll as it did in 2010 when over 200,000 people died.
The nation is wreathing in pain regarding extensive damage to the economy and infrastructure.
The small island nation was just recuperating from the assassination of its president last month. Political tension is still high.
