Uganda’s Cancer Crisis: Activists Call for Prevention Over Costly Treatment

KAMPALA, UGANDA: Lately we reported in these pages how a city businessman was conned of USD$ 80,000 (Ugx300m) by a one Maimunah Neza Kebirungi. Though the businessman (names withheld) has been skeptical about reporting the case, Police have indicated that there is a need to investigate and ascertain the entire truth.
Working on a tip-off, detectives from the Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA) revealed to us that once a case is registered, Maimunah will be ‘hunted’ and arraigned in court.
“That is a very serious case of fake money (currency) making scum. It calls for urgent investigations because the suspects are still at large. As police, we always work hand in hand with the complainants so as to reach a logical conclusion in any case,” said a Senior Detective attached to the CIID Headquarters in Kibuli.
A source attached to the FIA intimated to us that they are following closely reports about the case. “We expect the complainant to file a case so as we can see best means of carrying out thorough investigations,” said the official who preferred not to be named.

M/s Maimunah Kebirungi is a resident of Makindye, a Kampala suburb but married to a rich businessman and shareholder of a leading bus Company in Mbarara, Western Uganda.
Maimunah Declines to Speak
Before we published, Maimunah declined to comment. When we tried to call her again, she declined to pick and promptly switched off her know phones.
Meanwhile, the latest information we have is of another French national (names withheld) who approached us intimating that he was also conned of several thousands of dollars by the same Maimunah. Apparently, the French citizen was formerly a lover to Maimunah.
Shs50 Million Reward Awaits
Not feeling fallen completely, the businessman has still stood by his word of giving a reward of UGX 50 million ($13,300) for any person who leads to where Maimunah is hiding. “The money will be paid in cash to anyone with information leading to the tracing of Maimunah Kebirungi Neza,” he said.
