NAIROBI, KENYA-SHIFTMEDIA- A man who was fined for violating Covid 19 curfew regulations has died in Police cells.
Robert Mureithi appeared at Makadara Law Courts in Nairobi, Kenya where he was slapped with KSh200 (Ugx6500) fine or seven days in jail for violating curfew rules.
The 30-year- old was, however, unable to raise the amount and was transferred to Pangani cells where he collapsed and died.
His body was discovered on Sunday morning July 11 at 7 am by the officer commanding the station.
According to Tuko. Robert Mureithi virtually appeared at the Makadara Court on Friday, July 9, where he was slapped with KSh 200 fine or seven days in jail for violating curfew rules.
He was transferred to Pangani cells awaiting further remand procedures.
Police at Pangani rushed Mureithi to a nearby hospital but it was too late.
The doctors who carried out medical observation confirmed him dead on arrival.
The tricenarian is suspected to have died following a scuffle among the inmates, an allegation that police denied.
He was supposed to appear before the court again on Friday, July 16, when he was expected to be released. The man’s remains were moved to City Mortuary for postmortem to establish the cause of his death. The process of tracing his family has commenced.
