KAMPALA-SHIFTMEDIA- Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary and President Museveni’s personal physician is under fire for alleged corruption.
On Monday Human Rights Activists demanded her immediate resignation over misuse of Covid 19 relief funds.
Under their umbrella body, the Human Rights Defenders Union alleged that Dr. Diana Atwine needs to step aside to allow for investigations.
Atwine who has been so instrumental in the fight against Covid 19 rubbished the allegations, describing them as ‘baseless and outrageous. “The point now is to focus on how to save Ugandans from the pandemic and not to look for faults and blames,” he told the media in an earlier press briefing.
Spitting fire, Namata Mwafrika aka Nana Nalongo said: “We demand therefore that the PS, Dr. Diana Atwine must resign with immediate effect for her extensive abuse of office.”
The Human Rights Defenders said Atwine had failed to account for the shs29b that was collected from the public and well-wishers last year as funds for the Covid 19 relief.
Atwine last week made it clear that the shs29bn was properly put to use.
The Auditor-General in his report punched holes on the accountability of the Covid 19 relief funds.
Namata also tasked Parliament to task the executive into accounting for the borrowed funds meant for Covid 19 relief.
