PROBED: Top Police Officers Face Arrest Over Shs4.5b Fraud



KAMPALA, Uganda|SHIFTMEDIA| Pastor Sirajje Ssemanda of Revival Church Bombo worked with top police officers to defraud Ugandans of shs45b, it has emerged.

Sirajje was arrested as he tried to sneak into Tanzania through the Mutukula border on Monday. He was charged at the Buganda Road Court on Tuesday and remanded to Kitalya prisons. But as investigations headed by State House Anti Corruption Unit Lt Col Edith Nakalema rages on, it has emerged that Sirajje was not alone.

Names of senior police officers have been listed among those to beprosecuted. Inspector-General of Police John Martins Okoth Ochola promised to have all officers named in the scandal arrested, and prosecuted.

The Director of Operations at the Uganda Police AIGP Edward Ochom said Assistant Commissioner of Police Godfrey Matte was one of the senior officers being probed.

On Tuesday Pastor Mugisha Mondo and Catherine Kusasira were summoned by Lt. Col Nakalema and grilled for hours before Mondo was checked in at Wandegeya Police Station.

The so-called “Men of God” are behind the shs45b that was defrauded from over 300,000 Ugandas from Pentecostal Churches and private schools across the country on the pretext of taking them to Israel and South Africa.

Nakalema said also arrested was Sirajje’s wife, Bennah Namisinga and her sister Maggie Kayima, aka Nabbi Omukazi, a widow to Pastor Augustine Yiga of the Kawala based Revival Ministries Church.

The two women were arrested along with Sirajje as he tried to flee into neighbouring Tanzania.

A team of detectives headed by CP Beta Chelimo on Tuesday searched the home of Pastor Sirajje and his Bombo based church.

Addressing the media at her offices, Nakalema said the police had so far not found any evidence connecting the women to the fraud.,

Nakalema said more arrests would be carried out as investigations dig deeper.
