NABBED: Oyam Inspector Of Schools Arrested Over Extortion

OYAM, Uganda [SHIFTMEDIA] The battle against graft in Oyam district is being enforced to the dot by the Resident District Commissioner.
Reports of bribery, extortion and nepotism has been always reported to be taking center stage in Oyam district.

But the new RDC Rtd ASP Hope Atuhaire has stepped in to curb the vice that was growing at an abnormal speed.

This week an inspector of schools was arrested for alleged extortion. Achol Janet aged 49 years, the Lango Senior Inspector of S chools working with Oyam Local Government.

According to the RDC, Achol demanded for money from Owino Tonny and Ayo Bonny promising to recruit them as Animal Husbandry officer, and Assistant Agricultural Officer for Oyam Local Government respectively.
She was charged with Obtaining Money by False pretense. Police in Oyam said Achol demanded for shs 8million from the two during the recent Public Service Commission interviews.

RDC Issues warning

While addressing the media at her offices Hope Atuhaire warned civil servants against extortion and bribery. She said all recruitment into the District Local Government must be based on merit as per Public Service standing orders on recruitment and hiring.

“This is just the beginning. This is a warning to those out there who are corrupt, I won’t have any room for corruption in Oyam while still serving as the RDC,” said former police detective
