NABBED: Doctor Arrested Over Missing Oxygen Cylinders From Mbale Regional Referral Hospital

MBALE-SHIFTMEDIA- While scores of citizens are battling with life in various health centers amidst the covid 19 pandemic, a few unscrupulous Ugandans are busy trying to earn from the situation.

A medic in Mbale is set to appear in court after he was arrested over reports of 40 missing oxygen cylinders from Mbale Regional Referral hospital.

 

The doctor (name withheld) was tracked to his private health facility in Life General Clinic and Laboratory located in Nkoma Ward Industrial Division.

 

The Elgon Region Police Spokesman Rogers Taitika said one oxygen cylinder was recovered from the health facility.

 

“We received reports that 40 oxygen cylinders were stolen from Mbale hospital. We managed to get one of the cylinders at this private clinic and arrested one staff,” Taitika told the press.

 

He said the suspect will help police to explain how the cylinder meant for Mbale hospital was found at their medical facility and where the other 39 cylinders are.

 

We have established that a team from the State House Anti-Corruption Unit is interested in ascertaining how the cylinders were stolen from the hospital that is guarded by police and private security guards.

 

Mbale Regional referral hospital has a capacity of 400 beds and serves the neighboring districts of Tororo, Bukedea, Busia, Butaleja, Budaka, Sironko, Kapchorwa among others.
