NABBED: Chinese Firm Tiang Tang To Pay Uganda Railways Shs12b For Vandalized Materials

KAMPALA, Uganda-SHIFTMEDIA-  For decades Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) has been crying foul over vandalism and theft of its materials

The culprits have been identified and will have to compensate URC for stolen and vandalized materials worth shs12b billion.

Tiang Tang, a Chinese firm with chains of investments ranging from industries, Real Estates, hotels, and others has been identified as the culprit.

Tiang Tang who have powerful links to top State authorities have been sued by URC after materials weighing 14tons worth shs12b was recovered from their Mbalala based factory.

The factory that makes mattresses, galvanized sheets, and steel windows are located in Mukono along the Kampala Jinja highway.

According to sources, the plant has been unscrupulously buying these materials from unpatriotic Ugandans who steal and vandalize URC materials.

Court through the Mukono Grade Two Magistrate issued a search of their premises upon which these materials were recovered.

Following the search, tons of railway slippers, steel rails among others were found in a very dilapidated (un reusable) state.

URC lawyers, Engoru, Mutebi Advocates, have asked the court to order Tiang Tang to pay their client Shs11.4 billion for the replacement of the rail material and value as well as compensation.

They are also demanding for  Shs150 million as cost of reinstatement and Shs 400 million as cost of freight, insurance, procurement, and other related costs.

Tiang Tang has 15 days to defend itself. They declined to comment when contacted saying: “Our lawyers are handling the matter.”
