BOOTED: ASARECA Executive Director Suspended Amidst Allegations of Sexual Harassment and Misconduct
Kampala, Uganda: The best description of Local Artist, Catherine Kusasira’s “Tears of A Woman” concert held at the Kampala Serena Hotel on Friday evening was ‘superlative’.
The chief guest was none, other than the fountain of Honor, Gen (Rtd) Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. Clad in his trade mark White Casual Khaki shirt, Museveni who looked jovial, and surrounded by a dozen plain clothed guards and aides hailed the Ugandan artists for being creative.’
Seated next to him, dressed in black, was the Gangamel Crew boss, Moses Ssali aka Bebe Cool, son of retired former Local Government Minister, Jaber Bidandi Ssali
Museveni who addressed the revelers at the Serena Conference Hall in middle of the night said this was his third attempt (attendance) to dance over decades.
“This is the third time I have been to a music concert and I am thrilled to see Ugandans, especially my Bazukulu enjoying themselves in a peaceful environment,:” he said.
“The artistes sung for me in Munyonyo sometime back, then the second time I was at a show was during the concert for my son Bebe Cool. Ugandan artistes have no doubt been able to get creative and their talents have blossomed”, he said.
Museveni described such initiatives, by Ugandan artists as good for entertainment and business.
“I disagree with one of the singers who was saying “Bizeemu”, as if to say that this NRM government is committing crimes against its people. I advise the artists to use their talents in ways that do not sow divisions based on lies. The government of Uganda is working against all the threats and crimes against Uganda and her people.”
Museveni who took time to wiggle abit, also surprised the artists with envelopes. The sad moment of the show, however, was when Ronald Mayinja’s sang his “Bizeemu” song, that irritated NRM stalwarts, including chief guest, President Museveni.
When he stood up to speak, Museveni said: ““This person who has sung about Bizeemu is not right. Although there are some of our beloved citizens who have been killed , it is not the government that killed them. They were killed by killers who the government is fighting. But the past governments we fought were the ones killing people. Our government is not killing people but fighting the killers! So there is no Bizeemu!”
