ACCRA, Ghana-SHIFTMEDIA- Ghanaian Police and Football Association are investigating an alleged match-fixing plot that saw a defender score two own goals.
Perhaps the craziest own goals scored in history.
Hashmin Musah, a player in the Ghana Premier League entered record books when he came out clear claiming he scored two deliberate own goals in a match on Saturday so as to foil an alleged match-fixing plot.
Hashmin a defender for Inter Allies came into play after his team that is already facing relegation was already beaten 5-0 by Ashanti Gold.
Apparently, he had heard while at the hotel room that a Sports Betting firm had fixed the match with high odds to end at 5-1.
But as the match remained 12 minutes to end, Hashmin scored extra two own goals making it 7-0 for the Ashanti Gold.
“My own goals were deliberate and even my team mates congratulated me for spoiling the ‘pre-agreed’ scoreline put in place for betting reasons,” he boasted.
“I heard it in our hotel that a bet had been made for a correct scoreline of 5-1 against my club Inter Allies. I promised my coach that if he allows me to play from the bench, I will spoil the bet. And after the game, my team congratulated me” Musah told Kumasi FM.
He noted that he decided to spoil the game since he doesn’t condone betting.
The country’s Football Association issued a statement saying they are investigating the matter.
The weekend in Ghana was awash with videos of the defender’s goals that went viral on social media.
But in a rare twist of events, Ashanti Gold has denied any involvement in the alleged match-rigging agreement.
“We take notice of the videos circulating in relation to our game against Inter Allies and wish to unequivocally disassociate [ourselves] from any wrongdoing,” Ashanti Gold said in a statement on Monday.
