KASESE, Uganda|SHIFTMEDIA| His slogan is securing the future! This is Norbert Mao, the Democratic Party President and the party presidential contender for the 2021 Presidential elections.
Mao was due to launch his campaigns in Kasese on Wednesday, but he was nowhere to be seen, letting his supporters down.
Mao promised to arrive in Kasese at the break of dawn and start the business of campaigns
Mao was expected in the district on Wednesday afternoon. However, by 4:30 pm, Mao had not yet turned up.
Earlier in a presser, Mao had promised to deliver justice to the people of Kasese people who lost their relatives during the military attack on the Rwenzururu kingdom in 2016.
Mao has promised to abide by the set COVID 19 SOPS but also warned the police to respect the rules of the game. In his words, he said: “As DP, we shall hold rallies because the Health Minister allowed us to hold rallies of up to 200 people. I hope you people understand the word rally because that’s what we’ll have. I want to warn the Police to respect the Ministry of Health directives.”
“We already have a plan of how we shall carry out our campaigns while maintaining the Standard Operating Procedures. We shall employ Bluetooth speakers and make conference calls so that we reach a bigger audience at the same time,” Mao said.
“If a District has ten counties, we shall gather people in ten counties and have a Bluetooth speaker in every location. I will be speaking from one location but all the other people gathered in different places will be getting the message,” he added.
He added that the gatherings of up to 200 people were officially communicated by Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng on Monday while further easing the lockdown.
Tumukunde flops in Kabale
Meanwhile independent Presidential candidate and former security minister Gen. Henry Tumukunde is yet to attract crowds where he is campaigning in Kigezi sub region.
Tumukunde clashed with police during a rally in Rukungiri earlier in the week. Though he has now opted to campaign using a bicycle, this antic is yet to attract the voters in Kabale.
