Kampala, Uganda: A former guard of a top UPDF officer, Maj. Juma Seiko who shot and killed two boda boda riders way back in December, 2016 in Nakasero, in Kampala, has finally been convicted.

High Court on Monday sentenced former UPDF soldier and bodyguard, Alex Cherotich, to 65 years imprisonment for killing Lamex Ogwang and Fred Sembatya.

High Court Judge, Justice Flavia Anglin Ssenoga, while making the judgement ruled that Cherotich’s conduct was found to be lacking especially for recklessly using his gun.

Cherotich on December 3, 2016, while guarding at Maj Juma Seiko’s residence at  Nakasero Hill, a Leafy Kampala suburb, opened fire and shot dead the two Boda Boda cyclists. He was also sentenced to 35 years for attempted murder, for Injuring, the two passengers, Solomon Mugabi and David Ssenkubuge.

Justice Anglin ruled that such stiff sentences were meant to send signals to those planning to recklessly use their weapons, to think twice.
