Court Grants Bail to LCI Chairman Who Snatched A Fire Arm from Police Officer on Duty

NABWERU, Wakiso|SHIFTMEDIANEWS| Last week a video of a Local Village one chairperson who disarmed a police man during the National Youth Elections went viral. The “brave” LCI Chairperson disarmed the cop after he tried to shoot into the crowd.

Police reacted and the local leader was subsequently arrested. Today he appeared before the court and was granted bail.

The Nabweru Magistrates Court granted bail to Joachim Kimera the Kiyaga Zone LCI Chairperson in Kawempe Division who allegedly disarmed a policeman during the declaration of results for youth elections.

Joachim Kimera was thrown into police cells last week on accusations of disarming one Corporal Jack Rutabaleka, who was providing security at a polling station at Kiyaga Zone Bwaise I, Kawempe Division.

Rutabaleka was suddenly attacked by six men from his back who grabbed him while Kimera snatched away his fire weapon.

Kimera was jailed last week alongside other perpetrators including his secretary Twaha Nkata and the six youths who were led by Makerere University Guild President Julius Kateregga.

All the six who appeared before Nabweru Court Grade One Magistrate Achok Abrahams Moding on charges of being armed in a public place contrary to section 75 (a) of the Penal Code Act denied the charges.

They were remanded to Kasangati Prisons until August 27th.

However while appearing for a bail application hearing on Thursday at the same court, Moding granted Kiyaga and the others bail and adjourned the case to October 1st to allow prosecution finish investigations.
