KAMPALA-SHIFTMEDIA- Scores of youth, especially journalism students from Uganda are eligible for the yearlong Youth Equality Center mentorship.

The Youth Equality Center ( yec )was founded in 2014.

The Youth-led community enhancement organization dedicates its efforts to elevating young people’s voices in governance by extending leadership, Sexual Reproductive Health (SRHR) and livelihood,

According to Kaviri Ali the Team Leader, the strategies include engaging the youth in capacity building, advocacy and community mobilization.

“Through availing training and life skills learning opportunities, YEC empowers young people (12-35 years), imparts knowledge on leadership and gender issues so the youths can take on leadership roles in their communities,” explained Ali.

What is the plan?

The issue of HIV/AIDS and the youth has been on high discussion in Uganda. But with funding support from United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) a U.S. government’s response to the global HIV/AIDS epidemic, something positive is on the plan.

Kaviri said YEC is implementing a project dubbed “Youth powered digital technologies for HIV/AIDs” whose aim is to improve the lives of Young Ugandans especially the Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

“Through this initiative, YEC is providing online Media Training to Mass communication students on HIV/Aids issues,” he said.

He explained that the trained students will undergo a yearlong internship program where they are exposed to issues of HIV/AIDS, Youth leadership, Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights.

This YEC signature program consists of multiple trainings as well as community engagements during the internship period as program trainees work jointly on SRHR and HIV/AIDS projects including running Youth-led programs on YEC Digital Radio at www.esrhr.org/.

The interested youth can seek details by logging into blogspot.com while putting in mind that DEADLINE is April 30 2021.
